Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Abroad – Antananarivo: Arrival at the Ivato International airport. Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Diego Suarez : 1 hr flight Transfer to the airport and flight to Diego Suarez. Upon arrival, city tour with your guide. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 3: Diego Suarez – Emerald sea or Three bays : 20 km to Ramena + Approx 1hr by boat Depending on the weather of the day, full day excursion on either Emerald sea or the three bays. Emerald sea excursion: Departure for the excursion in the Emerald lagoon. Enjoy the shallow turquoise water, perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Pic nic lunch. Return to Diego Suarez . Dinner and overnight at your hotel. OR Three bay excursion: Transfer to the great bay of Diego Suarez. Beautiful beaches and quaint fishing villages. Vegetation consists predominantly of low shrubs and some baobab tree. We continue our interesting path to arrive at the beautiful bay of Sakalava, with strong winds and a surfer’s paradise. Continuing along the trail you will encounter the charming bay of pigeons and the Bay of Dune which offer a stunning backdrop of the Indian Ocean and in some small islands. Continuing to be at the Orangea beach; possibility to swim in the clear waters and quiet and continue the excursion to the lighthouse and the fishing village of Ramena. Lunch picnic. At late afternoon return to Diego Suarez. Dinner and overnight at your hotel. Warning: Emerald sea is practicable from October to June. The “Varatraz”, local trade winds make it difficult to get there from July to September. Then it is advisable to do three bays.
Day 4: Diego Suarez – Joffreville – Amber mountain: 30 km , 45 min drive Early in the morning, breakfast and departure to visit National Park of “Montagne d’Ambre ” for a full day exploring the natural beauty of flora and fauna of Madagascar. Living heart and are a true water reserve in the north of Madagascar, the Montagne d’Ambre is one of the most elder park of Madagascar. Located 30 km from the city of Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), and consists of a wet forest, overlooking a volcanic massif at 1,475 meters above sea level. The park is easily accessible coming from Diego Suarez. There are seven species of lemurs, including the famous Eulemur Coronatus, more than 75 species of birds with the most famous Huppe Ibis; waterfalls, exotic species ,volcanic craters, thousands of plant species and its botanical garden. It is called the “emerald forest “. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 5: Joffreville – Red Tsingy – Ankarana: 135 km, 3 to 3h30 drive Departure to visit the Red Tsingy. A rock formation due to the erosion by the rain and the wind of a laterite soil. The result is a surprising maze of red rocks unique in Madagascar. Continuation to Ankarana National Park, classified world heritage by UNESCO. The park covers a surface area of 18,000 hectares. It has a set of caves, underground rivers, canyons, “Tsingy “, dry and green forests, about 100 km from the town of Antsiranana (Diego Suarez). Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 6: Ankarana: The massif of Ankarana is composed of Tsingy. These eroded limestone pinnacle are refuge to thick forest that shelters rare species like the crowned lemur and the forest Ibis, as well as a wide range of unique succulent plant. The cathedral-like caves used to be the King and its Antakarana tribe shelter during the inter-tribal conflict on the nineteen’s century. This royalty tomb is now home to bats. You will encounter Antakarana tribe who still live in the nearby villages. Return to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 7: Ankarana – Ankify – ….: 150 km , 3 to 4 hrs drive + 45 min boat transfer from Ankify to Nosy be Transfer to Ankify for about 3 hrs drive. Passage at Ambilobe, a lovely small town and the rich Sambirano valley. Arrival at Ankify port, transfer by speed boat to your Hellville harbor in Nosy be.
